Jocelyn Nicole Johnson's short stories and essays have appeared in Guernica, the Guardian, Phoebe, Prime Number, Literary Mama, and elsewhere. 'Control Negro' was featured in Best American Short Stories 2018, guest edited by Roxane Gay, and read live by LeVar Burton as part of PRI's Selected Shorts series. 'The King of Xandria' placed first in Press 53's annual fiction contest, and was nominated for a Pushcart. Johnson's fiction debut, 'My Monticello'---five stories and a novella all set in Virginia---will be published by Henry Holt in the US and Harvill Secker/Vintage in the UK in the fall of 2021. A veteran public school art teacher, Johnson lives and writes in Charlottesville, Virginia.
